:: Post2Page

Introduction

Post2Page allows you to take existing posts that you have and convert them into pages. It also remembers the previous permalink that you had while it was a post so that sites linking to your posts are able to find it still.

It does this by way of sending a 301 redirect to the requesting browser and is transparent to the viewer. Essentially you will have a post-permalink -> page-permalink 301 redirect.

So now you can move an entire post without having to create a new page, with a link from the original post, just to make sure your viewers can find it. Everything moves over including the comments, so nothing gets broken.

If you want to test this, go to my WP-dTree page and look for the link to it's older version (this still points to the post permalink) and just click on it.

I wrote this because I had initially created some plugins for WordPress as posts. But now I want to put them in their own WP Plugins area on my site as pages so that viewers don't have to search through my posts. I also didn't want the existing links that I had from other sites to the plugins to get broken, thus came Post2Page.

If you are feeling generous after trying this plugin out, please support my efforts through the donate link you see on my site. I've been cracking the code out on my free time, so even a small token amount is appreciated.

Download

Post2Page version 1.0 has been downloaded 2059 times!

Installation

1. Extract the files and transfer the 'post2page' folder to your plugins folder.
2. Log into your admin panel and click on 'Activate'.
3. Goto the manage a post area and you will find post2page on the right hand side menu.
4. Click the 'Convert to page' box and click on 'Save'.
5. Your post is now a page, but the old permalinks (as a post) still work.

i’m trying to use your plugin, t think its a great idea… but.. as i activate, i get this:

WordPress database error: [Table ‘anitapb_wrdp4.wp_silpstream_post2page’ doesn’t exist]
SELECT pageid FROM wp_silpstream_post2page WHERE `postlink` LIKE ‘http://style.no-tempo.net/’ LIMIT 1

Anita managed to sort out her problem. She needed to transfer the whole folder to the plugin directory and not just the file. If anyone finds any bugs, do let me know. BTW, I’m looking into the preview function with the ‘FLOCK’ browser.

The plugin activates OK but Manage/Posts menu doesn’t show it. I’ve checked permissions, cleared caches, downloaded and installed again, but to no avail. Any ideas?

Noach,
It shows up on the right hand side bar as the last item. You may have to click on the plus to open it up so that you can see the option.

I got this error when I tried to use your program:

WordPress database error: [Table ‘blog.wp_silpstream_post2page’ doesn’t exist]
SELECT pageid FROM wp_silpstream_post2page WHERE `postlink` LIKE ‘http://www.thinkbig-studios.com/blog/?p=7&preview=true/’ LIMIT 1

I hope you can help, because your program looks awesome and I really want to use it.

I just love it, when you’re searching for a plug-in to do some thing specific. And you end up finding one that does exactly that. Very smooth. Thanks.
