:: Feed Control

Introduction

I wrote this plugin because I decided to create some Pages in WordPress for my site, but it wasn't until later that I realised that Pages are not included in the main feeds that WordPress generates when an update service tries to get the feeds from my site.

This plugin will allow you to change how WordPress generates the main feeds that the update services use. From here you can add Pages to your feeds or remove posts from them. You also have the option to exclude specific posts or pages based on their ID and can also set the sort options to use modified date instead of post date.

If you are feeling generous after trying this plugin out, please support my efforts through the donate link you see on my site. I've been cracking the code out on my free time, so even a small token amount is appreciated.

Hope you find this useful. Let me know if you have any problems or have suggestions for improving it! Thanks!

Thanks - I will check it out.

BTW — what are you using to count your downloads? Thanks!

Jaxia,
The download counts is a new statistics plugin that I’m working on still. I expect to complete it soon and will post it up for download soon. I’ll keep you posted.

One modest observation: On the “feed control” page, the Flock browser (which I’m using) sees the RSS preview as a cue to read the feed only.
Maybe this can be fixed by changing a Flock setting (haven’t found it yet) - but you might consider a “show preview - yes/no” thing.

Hi! Thanks for this plugin. Really useful.

Is there a way to exclude whole categories? For example I have a separate category “info” for just posts on site updates, and all the those posts really don’t need to show up on Technorati.

Jasso,
Unfortuantely I didn’t implement a function in this to do that. You’ll just have to do things based on the ID number for now. I might look at this later, but I can’t say when yet.

Hi,

Activating Feed Control invalidates my RSS feed (seems to be related to a recent upgrade to WP 2.04).
Here’s the broken feed: http://game-research.com/2/?feed=rss2

Any idea about the nature of the problem?

Thx

Jonas,
I was able to validate your feed with the tools at w3.org. I’m not sure what problem you are seeing.

Hi,

Curious - my problem is that news readers get the feed wrong - as do all validators when I try, e.g. http://validator.w3.org/feed/check.cgi?url=http://game-research.com/2/?feed=rss2

I just tried posting the feed into the box at w3 (instead of pasting the URL). This gives me:

This feed does not validate.

line 2, column 0: XML parsing error: :2:0: not well-formed (invalid token)

I reran the check but things still seemed to work. I sent you a screen print via email.

Hello! I’m looking for a plugin that lets me show a different Number Of Posts in the feed, depending on which category it is. For example my “News” feed will be the usual 10 posts limit, but the “Podcast” feed will show “-1″ posts (or, ALL the posts in that category, whether it’s 12 posts or 40).

Can you add this feature, or is there another way?

HI,
Thank you for this plugin.
However It doesn’t work with my site - look what I’m getting:
XML Parsing Error: mismatched tag. Expected: .
Location: http://abba-daddy.com/feed/?preview=true

Can you help me ?

Thanx

Here’s a link to a modified version which adds support to exclude certain categories from the main feed. No other plugin I have found provides this ability, and FeedControl has the best platform to do it.

Thanks
